WS2 Flash Codes

Make Toyota Corolla 4A-FE
Warning: Be careful working around engines and exercise caution to avoid injury.
Note: The engine check light must be working.
If you have problems with the task, see you lecturer for help.

1. Flash/Blink Codes.
1.1 Find a engine/vehicle that you have the workshop manual with the correct procedure and codes to diagnose the flash codes.

1.2 Have your tutor create a fault in the EFI system.
1.3 Using the workshop manual follow the procedure to extract the codes, explain briefly what is the procedure.
When the faulty happen, firstly turn the ignition switch on, open diagnostic plug. Need the jumper wire. The jumper we use in the practical have a fuse to between connector prevent the accident or spark.

Secondly using the jumper wire connect the terminal TE1 and E1. The faulty code will show up by blinking on the dashboard. The 2 pictures below showing the engine light is ON and OFF, unfortunately I do not have a video for this.

Depends on how many time blinking and gap of time between blinking and finally we will find the code.
Look the diagram below what the code meaning and find the problem is.

2 Trouble Codes or Fault Codes

2.1 Record any codes, and what system and condition they describe in the chart below (Example: might be code number 21, for Throttle Position Sensor, signal voltage too low)

Code numberSystem affectedCondition described
41TPSHas been connected
31Vacuum SensorHas been connected
24Intake Air Temperature  SensorHas been connected

TPS connector has been disconnected.

The engine light blinking 4-1.

Vacuum sensor has been disconnected.

The engine light blinking 3-1.

Intake Air Temperature Sensor has been disconnected.

The engine light blinking 2-4.

3 Visual Inspection to find fault
3.1 Do a visual inspection under the bonnet to find where the problem is.
Use information from the code to know where to look for the problem and what type of problem to look for.
3.2 Describe the problem(s) you found:
Counting how many times the engine light blinking. Record the code and compare with the manual book. It will show what the problem is.

4 Repair fault
4.1 Plug back in the connector, or repair problem found Describe what you did:
After we plug back in all the sensor connector; turn the engine on. The same code will blinking again. That's mean we need clear the code.

5 Clear Codes
Describe what you did to clear the codes:
Turn the ignition key off and disconnect the battery the positive post and connected again. Do not need waiting for a few second.

6 Recheck for codes and record codes in system now:
Turn the ignition key on, the engine light was on the dashboard and back to normal. and the light will goes off after the engine running.

7 How could the faults found affect the engine performance?
Every sensor different effect of the performance engine, such as an oxygen sensor effect of the fuel consumption. Running rich or lean and emission. All the sensor have characteristic it self to the ECU. If ECU receive different reading of the factory program, the ECU will notify the wrong command to engine.

8 Discuss what other tests you should be doing once you have found the fault codes:
Test using oscilloscope much better than mutli-meter instead give as the pattern and more accurate.
